Tips on Creating An Amazing Koi GardenPeople who own a Koi garden know that it is one of life's most relaxing pleasures. While it can be a wonderful hobby, there are a few things to take into consideration when you are either planning to build a Koi garden or are simply adding to an existing garden pond. The three basic components of a Koi garden are: a pond, pond plants, and Koi fish. Unlike a regular flower garden, creating a Koi garden is an interactive experience that is a culmination of different life aspects. When brought together to make a wonderful pond composition, people will start to develop a new perspective for how engaging, yet relaxing a garden can be, and will appreciate the liveliness of the the pond that populate the Koi garden. Determining a good location for your pond is a key factor in its long-term success. It should not be in direct sunlight or in a place where it will be subject to adverse conditions, such as under a tree where it can get filled up with fallen leaves and twigs. Even though trees are good for protecting garden Koi from predators that fly, the disadvantages outweigh the advantages with regard to placing it there. Pesticides and general gardening chemicals are absolutely horrible for a Koi garden and can, regardless of the amount, decimate your Koi fish and pond. For optimal results, a garden pond should have a depth greater than four feet because that will give it the water depth needed to protect the Koi from land predators like raccoons and cats, and it will also provide the space needed for your Koi as they grow. Koi are not always fans of sharing their pond with potted plants. They make things hard for their owners by using the plants to make unnecessary messes in the pond. Koi have been known to knock plants over, to chomp on a plant's leaves, and even to shift the soil in a potted plant so that it spills all in the pond. If you still choose to incorporate plants into your Koi Garden , then you can place netting or pea gravel and hearty river rocks on top of the plants to protect them from the Koi fish. An excellent option for those that desire to have plants is to populate the pond with lilies. Lilies serve as a source of shade and as a protective shelter for the pond, and they come in a myriad of varieties from which you can choose. While they don't have the oxygenating properties that some other plants may have, they are a wonderful choice. Just be sure to select the lily that works best for your Koi garden, which will mean determining which one does better in deeper versus more shallow water. You can have a successful and healthy Koi garden. Its long term survival and outstanding attractiveness will be a factor of your care of all of its parts including the Koi, the plants, and the pond. Together they make a fantastic symphony of life and beauty that all can enjoy. |
